LPD Lab Services has a wealth of experience in investigating porous solids. This primarily involves using optical microscopy and SEM scanning electron microscopy to investigate pore sizes. This has applications in the automotive industry as well as with medical devices, catalysts and filters. Previous analysis at LPD includes:

• Porous scaffold material for bone growth size measurements using optical microscopy and image analysis.
• Pore size measurements of medical device fine filters using SEM and image analysis.
• Sponge void size measurements using optical microscopy and image analysis.
• Measurement of active catalyst areas in car exhaust systems by optical microscopy.
• Internal porosity of sintered metal, ceramic and plastic components from fracture sections using SEM. 
• Voids in filter systems and filter blockage investigations.
